Abstract

For traffic planners, there is an urgent need for a simple and efficient method to quickly analyze the rationality of planning schemes under complex traffic conditions when facing the road sections where dedicated CAV lanes have not yet been deployed. Therefore, firstly, considering the spatial distribution of heterogeneous vehicles on longitudinal lanes and the proportion of CAV in the mixed traffic flow, different types of lane capacity calculation formulas were derived, laying the foundation for subsequent vehicle travel time calculations. Secondly, based on the user equilibrium theory, the traffic time distribution of different travelers on different types of lanes was analyzed, and the vehicle travel costs for different types of lanes were calculated accordingly. Finally, from the perspective of traffic planners, the rationality evaluation criteria for dedicated CAV lane planning schemes were proposed by comparing the total travel time costs of vehicles before and after setting up dedicated CAV lanes, targeting the two different rules of mixed use and complete separation of dedicated CAV lane usage. Based on the given proportion of CAV in mixed traffic flow and the number of lanes on the road section, the rationality of the proposed dedicated CAV lane planning scheme can be quickly judged by using the proposed evaluation criteria.
