Understanding and Reflection on Smart Highways from Perspective of New Quality Productive Forces

The accelerated development of new quality productive forces has injected new vitality into the evolution of smart highways, which serves as a significant application of these emerging forces in the transportation sector. Addressing the current issues in smart highway construction, such as the lack of systematic research on basic theories and insufficient assessment of development trends, this paper, based on an overview of the development situation and requirements of new quality productive forces, utilizes methods such as connotation and extension analysis, the golden circle of thinking model, SWOT analysis, and disruptive innovation identification to explore the basic theories and development trends of smart highways. The paper proposes the essential development goal of "people enjoy travelling and goods flow smoothly" for smart highways, outlines a "two-stage, three-step" strategic deployment, and identifies eight key tasks. It clarifies the promising prospects for the development of smart highways under the new situation and the disadvantages and risks to be avoided. It also forecasts ten emerging directions within new quality productive forces, such as highway traffic models. Finally, eight suggestions for sustainable development are provided, including identifying and cultivating new quality productive forces, focusing on road users′ experience, and innovating investment and financing systems. These suggestions aim to provide theoretical support for the advancement of smart highways in this new era.
